getPDFpress is an independent website offering free PDF tools - compression to real-world size targets, merging, splitting, and image and document conversion - built and run by one person, not a software conglomerate.

Why this site exists

Most people who need to compress a PDF are not PDF enthusiasts. They are trying to upload a resume before a job posting closes, submit a form to a government portal with a strict limit, or email a scanned document that is inexplicably 14MB. The tools for that moment should be fast, free, and honest about what they can and cannot do.

Honesty is the design principle here, because the PDF tools market has a habit of promising the impossible. On getPDFpress you will find best-effort targets rather than guarantees, real before-and-after file sizes on every result, and plain statements when a target cannot be reached readably. You will not find invented user counters, fake urgency, or success messages without numbers.

How your files are handled

Most tools - compression, merge, split, and image conversion - process files on the getPDFpress server. Files are stored temporarily during processing and automatic cleanup runs on a schedule. The PDF-to-Word and Word-to-PDF tools additionally use ConvertAPI, a dedicated document conversion service, to perform the conversion itself. The privacy page describes both paths in detail, and we keep it in sync with how the site actually works.

A common-sense note that also appears on the tools themselves: please do not upload documents you are not authorized to process.

What the tools cost

Nothing. The site currently runs without ads; if advertising is added in the future it will be clearly separated from the tools, and it will never sit between you and your download button. Sensible limits - uploads up to 50MB and page caps on image conversion - exist to keep the service stable and free for everyone.

The Learn library

The Learn section collects practical guides written for the same moments the tools serve: getting under a 500KB or 200KB limit, understanding why a file is huge, compressing from a phone, and preparing documents that portals accept. The guides give honest numbers and honest limits, including when the answer is "compression alone will not fix this."
